2026 Paradigm Shift

Anthropic Expanded the Claude Certification Track — Most Courses Are Still Teaching the Old One

For most of its short life, the Claude certification programme meant one thing: an architect credential. In 2026, Anthropic rebuilt it into four role-based certifications — adding a Claude Certified Associate for business professionals, a Claude Certified Developer for engineers, and a Professional tier for architects working at enterprise scale.

27%
Agentic Architecture
The single heaviest domain on the Architect Foundations exam, testing orchestration and coordinator–subagent loops.
20%
Claude Code Configuration
CLAUDE.md hierarchies, custom slash commands, path-specific rules, plan mode, and CI/CD pipelines.
33.1%
Applications & Integration
Dominates the Developer exam marks. Requires building real production software, not just calling endpoints.
12 Mo
Credly Validity & Renewal
Proctored exams through Pearson with digital Credly badges. Free non-proctored annual renewal before lapse.

Claude Academy vs Official Pearson Proctored Certifications

Anthropic also launched Claude Academy, a free learning platform with around 25 courses spanning AI fluency, Claude fundamentals, Claude Code, the API, and MCP. Those courses award completion badges. They are not certifications, and completing them does not get you a proctored credential — a distinction a lot of course listings blur.

If a course is still selling you prompt-writing tips, it is preparing you for an exam that no longer exists. The Aabiance curriculum is rebuilt directly against the current published exam guides, domain by domain, at the weightings Anthropic assigns them.

Role-Based Pathways

Four Claude Certifications. Choose the One That Matches Your Role

Anthropic built these credentials around what people actually do, not around seniority. Pick by the work in front of you: guiding customers and running projects, writing the code, or designing the system.

Business & Consulting Track — No Code Required

CCAO-F — Claude Certified Associate: Foundations

Validates practical, day-to-day capability with Claude without engineering or API prerequisites.

Exam Fee: USD 99

The Claude Certified Associate – Foundations (CCAO-F) is Anthropic's entry-level credential for professionals who use Claude as a daily working tool rather than a development platform. It validates practical, everyday capability: writing effective prompts, decomposing complex tasks, evaluating outputs for accuracy and hallucination, selecting the right Claude model and product surface, configuring Claude Projects with knowledge sources and connectors, and applying governance, privacy, and responsible-use judgement. No coding, API, or engineering background is required. The exam runs 60 questions in 120 minutes across seven weighted domains, with a scaled pass mark of 720. It suits consultants, delivery leads, project managers, marketers, and operations teams.

Eligibility Criteria
  • No prerequisite exam. The credential is awarded on exam performance alone — you can start here.
  • No coding, API or engineering background required.
  • Recommended for professionals who already use Claude as a day-to-day productivity tool.
  • Exam registration requires a work email on a company domain in the Claude Partner Network. We check this with you before you enrol.

CCDV-F — Claude Certified Developer: Foundations

Engineering credential for professionals building production software on Claude.

Exam Fee: USD 125

The Claude Certified Developer – Foundations (CCDV-F) is Anthropic's engineering credential for people who build production software on Claude. It validates Claude API mechanics, tool use and structured output, agent architecture and construction, custom Model Context Protocol servers, application and integration design, guardrails against prompt injection, secrets handling, and token-cost optimisation. Applications and Integration alone carries 33.1% of the marks, so it rewards shipping real systems rather than writing clever prompts. The exam runs 53 questions in 120 minutes across eight domains, passing at 720. Anthropic recommends one to five years of engineering experience, six months with Claude, and Python or TypeScript.

Eligibility Criteria & Honest Advisory
  • No prerequisite exam. The credential is awarded on exam performance alone.
  • Anthropic recommends 1 to 5 years of engineering experience.
  • At least six months of hands-on experience with Claude or a comparable LLM system.
  • Working proficiency in Python and/or TypeScript; fluency with REST APIs and CLI tools.
  • Exam registration requires a work email on a company domain in the Claude Partner Network.
  • These are recommendations, not gates — but a 33% integration domain will find you out. If you are short on any of them, we will tell you at the enquiry stage rather than sell you a seat.
Course Outcomes (What You Will Master)
  • Build production applications on the Claude API, with correct message handling, streaming and error paths
  • Design tool schemas and enforce structured output, including tool-choice configuration and structured error responses
  • Construct agents using established agent patterns and frameworks — agents that finish work rather than loop
  • Write and deploy a custom Model Context Protocol server
  • Defend an application against prompt injection, handle PII correctly, manage identity and secrets, and configure Claude hooks
  • Select models on real quality, latency and cost trade-offs, and bring token spend down without losing output quality
  • Treat prompt and context engineering as a testable engineering discipline, not a writing style
  • Debug non-deterministic systems and handle errors where a failing test is not always a bug
  • Operate Claude Code as a working development environment
Target Roles & Industry Impact
  • AI application engineer / LLM engineer
  • Claude API developer
  • AI agent developer
  • Backend or full-stack engineer on AI products
  • MCP and integrations engineer
  • AI platform engineer
  • Technical lead on an AI delivery team
Hiring Market Benchmark: This is the credential that separates engineers who can call an API from engineers who can ship an agentic system — the distinction hiring managers are currently struggling to test for.

Solution Architect Track — Agentic Systems

CCAR-F — Claude Certified Architect: Foundations

End-to-end design for Claude-powered agentic systems and multi-agent loops.

Exam Fee: USD 125

The Claude Certified Architect – Foundations (CCAR-F) is Anthropic's credential for solution architects and technical leads who design Claude-powered agentic systems end-to-end. It validates agentic loops and multi-agent orchestration, subagent invocation and context passing, Agent SDK hooks, tool interface design and MCP integration, Claude Code configuration through CLAUDE.md hierarchies, custom slash commands and CI/CD workflows, structured output with validation and retry loops, and context management for reliability. Agentic architecture alone accounts for 27% of the exam. It runs 60 questions in 120 minutes across five domains, passing at 720 on a 100–1,000 scale.

Eligibility Criteria
  • No prerequisite exam. The credential is awarded on exam performance alone.
  • Designed for solution architects and technical practitioners who design Claude-powered agentic systems.
  • You should be able to read code and reason about system design, even if you do not write production code daily.
  • Prior hands-on work with Claude, the Agent SDK, MCP or Claude Code is strongly recommended — nearly half this exam is practical configuration.
  • Exam registration requires a work email on a company domain in the Claude Partner Network.
Course Outcomes (What You Will Master)
  • Design agentic loops for autonomous task execution, and know when an agent is the wrong answer
  • Orchestrate multi-agent systems with coordinator–subagent patterns, configuring subagent invocation, spawning and context passing
  • Enforce multi-step workflows with reliable handoff patterns, and manage session state, resumption and forking
  • Apply Agent SDK hooks for tool-call interception and data normalisation
  • Design tool interfaces with structured error responses, configure tool distribution and tool choice, and integrate MCP servers

Enterprise Architect Track — Production Scale

CCAR-P — Claude Certified Architect: Professional

Senior architect credential owning enterprise Claude delivery, RAG, and governance at scale.

Exam Fee: USD 175

The Claude Certified Architect – Professional (CCAR-P) is Anthropic's advanced credential for senior architects owning Claude delivery at enterprise scale. It validates what happens after the prototype works: integration architecture, RAG pipeline and retrieval strategy design, observability and monitoring, evaluation frameworks with defined metrics and A/B testing, token and cost optimisation, guardrails and human-in-the-loop controls, regulatory compliance across GDPR, HIPAA and FedRAMP, and the stakeholder communication and lifecycle management that decide whether a system ships. The exam runs 63 questions in 120 minutes across seven domains, passing at 720. Anthropic recommends three years' architecture experience and six months in production.

Eligibility Criteria & Enterprise Requirements
  • No prerequisite exam. Many sit CCAR-F first as an on-ramp, but it is not a gate — awarded on exam performance alone.
  • Anthropic recommends 3 or more years in systems architecture or platform engineering.
  • At least six months of production work with Claude or comparable LLM systems — production, not prototypes.
  • Exposure to regulated or enterprise environments helps: 14% of this exam is governance, risk, and compliance.
  • Exam registration requires a work email on a company domain in the Claude Partner Network.
  • Going straight to Professional without production experience is the most common reason candidates fail. We will say so at the enquiry stage.
Course Outcomes (What You Will Master)
  • Translate a business problem into a Claude solution and choose correctly between workflow, agentic, and augmented-LLM patterns
  • Design end-to-end architectures with feedback loops, aligned to stated business value pillars
  • Evaluate tool and agent configuration, run a security gap analysis, and reason about accuracy against latency
  • Design RAG pipelines, select retrieval strategies, and evaluate connection protocols and discovery-versus-context approaches
  • Build an observability and monitoring strategy that surfaces failures before users do
  • Define evaluation metrics that mean something, design test frameworks for non-deterministic systems, run A/B testing, and optimise token usage and cost
  • Implement guardrails and controls, identify failure modes before production, design human-in-the-loop validation, and map a deployment against GDPR, HIPAA and FedRAMP
  • Run structured discovery, communicate architectural decisions to non-technical stakeholders, manage SLA alignment, and document architectures defensibly
  • Configure team environments and improve developer workflows across a delivery organisation
Target Roles & Partner Standing
  • Principal or lead AI solution architect

We solve the problem most candidates discover too late: Exam Eligibility.

We Solve the Problem Most Candidates Discover Too Late: Exam Eligibility

Here is something almost no course page will tell you before you pay: Anthropic's four proctored Claude certification exams are not currently open to the general public. Registration requires a work email address on a recognised company domain belonging to an organisation in the Claude Partner Network — personal email addresses are rejected at signup.

Joining the Partner Network is free at the entry tier, but the organisation applying must be a registered business operating in a supported region and offering consulting, implementation or managed services. In practice, that means a freelancer, a student, or an engineer at a company outside the network cannot simply book a seat at Pearson, however well they have studied.

We check this before you enrol, not after. Every Aabiance enquiry starts with a short eligibility review: whether your employer is already in the Claude Partner Network, whether your organisation qualifies to register, and what your realistic route to an exam seat looks like. If the answer is that you cannot sit the exam yet, we will say so before you spend a rupee.

Official Weightings

Curriculum: Every Exam Domain, With Its Real Weighting

Most course pages list arbitrary "modules". We list domains in the exact proportions Anthropic assigns them in the published exam guides — because that is what your scaled score is actually built from. Every module below maps to a domain, and class hours are allocated to match.

CCAO-F Curriculum — 7 Domains

Seven domains, 60 questions, 120 minutes. No coding. Proves you can put Claude to work responsibly inside a business — and know when not to.

# Domain Weight What You Learn and Practise
1 Prompting and Task Execution 14% Crafting effective prompts for business and technical work; decomposing complex requests into workable tasks; refining prompts iteratively; adapting your approach by task type — analysis, research, drafting, brainstorming.
2 Output Evaluation and Validation 21% The heaviest domain. Assessing Claude outputs for accuracy and completeness; spotting hallucinations, inconsistencies and bias; applying fact-checking and verification methods; deciding when human review is mandatory; editing, formatting and organising output for real delivery.
3 Product and Model Selection 12% Choosing the right Claude surface — chat, Projects, research mode, artifacts; distinguishing Haiku, Sonnet and Opus; matching model choice to cost, speed and quality requirements; working within context and memory limits.
4 Workflow Integration and Solution Design 16% Analysing requirements and use cases; using Claude for research, planning and optimisation; supporting solution design and iteration; integrating Claude into existing workflows; communicating its value and its limits to stakeholders.
5 Configuration and Knowledge Management 12% Configuring Claude Projects with custom instructions and knowledge sources; managing uploaded knowledge and connectors such as Google Drive and Gmail; writing system-level instructions; maintaining configurations as requirements change.
6 Governance, Risk and Responsible Use 15% Separating appropriate from inappropriate use cases; applying data-sensitivity, regulatory and privacy considerations; following organisational AI policy; reasoning about the ethical implications of deployment.
7 Troubleshooting and Optimisation 10% Diagnosing why a prompt is underperforming and fixing it; adjusting approach based on feedback; optimising workflows for efficiency and consistency.

CCDV-F Curriculum — 8 Domains

Eight domains, 53 questions, 120 minutes. Two-thirds of marks sit in application integration, model optimisation, and agent construction — tested on shipping production software.

Domain Weight Sub-Skills and What You Build
Applications & Integration 33.1% The largest domain by a wide margin. Requirements gathering (3.4%), systems life cycle (2.8%), Claude API mechanics (6.8%), software engineering practice (7.4%), application design (8.6%), and configuration management (4.1%). Expect to design, not just call an endpoint.
Model Selection & Optimisation 16.8% LLM fundamentals (5.2%), technical fundamentals (6.1%), model selection (2.7%), and cost and token management (2.8%). Quality against latency against spend — the trade-off engineers get wrong most often in production.
Agents & Workflows 14.7% Agent architecture (4.5%), agent construction (5.3%), and agent patterns and frameworks (4.9%). Building agents that complete work reliably rather than looping.
Prompt & Context Engineering 11.0% Context engineering (3.8%), prompt engineering (4.6%), and output handling (2.6%). Treated as an engineering discipline with testable results, not a style of writing.
Tools & MCPs 10.6% Tool implementation (4.4%), MCP server development (2.1%), and agentic customisation (4.1%). You will write a working Model Context Protocol server, not just read about one.
Security & Safety 8.1% AI application security (3.2%), guardrails (2.3%), Claude hooks (1%) and identity and secrets management (1.6%). Prompt injection, PII handling, key management, and the controls that stop an agent from doing damage.
Claude Code 3.1% Claude Code operation — using it as a working development environment rather than a novelty.
Eval, Testing & Debugging 2.6% Debugging and error handling for non-deterministic systems, where a failing test is not always a bug.

Agentic architecture and orchestration carries 27% of the marks.
The CCAR-F syllabus groups preparation into five weighted areas:
1. Agentic architecture and orchestration (27%)
2. Claude Code configuration and workflows (20%)
3. Prompt engineering and structured output (20%)
4. Tool design and MCP integration (18%)
5. Context management and reliability (15%)

Together, these topics address how modern Claude-powered autonomous systems are designed, secured, and operated.
Practical familiarity with Claude applications, APIs, tool integrations, and software architecture provides a useful preparation background. The exam features 60 questions, 120 minutes, and a scaled passing score of 720 out of 1,000. Registration requires an eligible corporate work email affiliated with the Claude Partner Network.
The supplied Professional outline focuses on taking full responsibility for enterprise AI solutions at scale. It covers architecture decisions alongside evaluation, governance, integration, operational requirements, token economics, and stakeholder communication across regulated frameworks like GDPR, HIPAA, and FedRAMP.
The outline includes retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), secure tool integrations, evaluation frameworks with A/B testing, observability and monitoring, and human review workflows. Preparation focuses on explaining design trade-offs: balancing response quality, security, latency, reliability, and operating spend.
